What to expect

Open to all Maricopa students, the 2020 Virtual Student Leadership Retreat, featuring keynote speaker Abby Wambach, will be filled with dynamic content. This free event will have an exciting array of sessions and workshops to hone your leadership skills and help you network with your peers and experts in leadership.

Hosted by Maricopa Community Colleges, Central Arizona College, and Coconino Community College, this year’s event runs September 22 - 24 and will explore vital topics like:

  • Social Justice
  • Civic Engagement

 

World Cup Hero and Activist Abby Wambach to Keynote

Are you ready to learn the secrets of effective leadership? The upcoming Virtual Student Leadership Retreat is adapting to the times and going virtual but will be as dynamic and insightful as ever. This year features an exciting keynote speaker, activist and former U.S. soccer star Abby Wambach! Abby was one of the national team’s key leaders on its road to international success.

A World Cup champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist, Abbey has proven herself to be an effective leader and will share her insights on leadership, equality, and inclusion.

About the keynote speaker

Abby Wambach is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and FIFA World Cup Champion. She is second all-time in goals scored in International competition and her ability to lead her American teammates was a key to the USA’s success for over a decade. She was the United States’ leading scorer in the 2007 and 2011 Women’s World Cup tournaments and the 2004 and 2012 Olympics. An activist for equality and inclusion, Abby is the author of the New York Times bestsellers; Forward: A Memoir and WOLFPACK, released in April 2019. She is co-founder of Wolfpack Endeavor, a company that is partnering with organizations to champion women in the workplace and the world.
